I am a 48 year old father of two with a Maths degree and have written educational software for years. I believe tutoring has to be tailored to the individual needs of the tutee. No student should feel bad about their standard of knowledge. My job is to identify why a student cannot understand a concept and then explain the concept in different ways so the students confusion is removed. With little time before an exam, a first aid approach may be required where techniques can be rote-learned, to hopefully push the student up a grade.
