I was not a natural mathematician who became a teacher. I was a struggling student of Maths who later became a teacher of struggling Maths students. That more difficult pathway has led me past many obstacles and given me many insights into how to deal with the mix of problems that plague the struggling student of Maths. Any mathmetician can teach another natural mathmetician the tricks of the trade but it takes someting different to teach the basics of Maths to those who find it far from from natural to those who find the challenges of, say, Algebra and Trigonometry far from easy.
